Miss Mahaffey started work at the age of 17 for Hanes as a sewing machine operator. Even after Sara Lee Knit Products took over the company. She worked there a total of 37 years until they shut down the plant. She then went on to work for Jefferson Apparel until they also shut the doors and closed the plant. Then she went back to college at the ripe age of 61 and got her CNA license and started working in-home health for Ashe Services for Aging. She worked there 16 years traveling from one client to the next helping the elderly stay in their home as long as possible until she was no longer able to work herself. Miss Mahaffey enjoyed working and staying busy. She enjoyed going to yard sales and thrift stores with her friends and family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her great-granddaughters, Kirsten and Keyla. She loved church and the Lord and never missed a service unless there was no other option.
