Mary Lillin Miller

Mary “Lillin” Miller, age 88, died on April 18th, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Julie Mullis, brother, R.H. Mullis, sisters, Nona Frazier and Virginia “Tootsie” Carr, and her husband, Reverend Jack Miller.

Mrs. Miller is survived by one daughter, Bendena Coldiron, and one son, Butch Miller.  She was lovingly known as “Mammaw” to ten grandchildren: Shea Coldiron, Angel Nelson, Angelina, Dalton, and Krissey Rose Coldiron, Josh Miller, Jessica Calhoun, Chad Miller, Michelle Edgell, and Eric Miller, and eight great-grandchildren: Carolyn and Maura Coldiron, Jamey Calhoun, Ava and Preston Edgell,  Jordan and Allie Miller, and Sydney Goodman.

Mrs. Miller lived her life taking care of others. She served faithfully as a minister’s wife to her husband, church, and community within the Ashe Baptist Association.  She was a solid support to many people throughout the years, often working behind-the-scenes and never requiring praise for the rock that she was. She had the ability to silently step up and know how to support others in times of need.

Known as Shug, Lil, Mama, Mammaw, and Auntie, she served many roles to her family and friends. She loved nothing more than to have her home full of people who left at least five pounds heavier because sharing food was her love language. From Christmas gatherings, Fourth of July cookouts to Sunday dinners, her door was open anytime, and she welcomed many family members, friends, and even tag-alongs throughout the years.  She never missed an event, no matter how big or small, from soccer matches to graduations, and of course, had a bag of candy in hand to share.

While her departure leaves a huge hole in many hearts, her family and friends take solace in knowing she is back with the love of her life who she was married to for 66 years. She departs a life well-lived and leaves wonderful memories to cherish.
