Mary Vinus (Richardson) Walton

Mary Vinus Richardson Walton age 96 of West Jefferson died Monday, December 20, 2021 at her son’s home.  Mrs. Walton was born July 19, 1925 in Ashe County to the late Melvin and Lessie Alice Campbell Richardson.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Dee Walton, brother, Albert Richardson, sisters, Francis Walton and Elsie Seats, daughter, Judy Walton, sons, Herbert, Larry, Lonnie, Gary, Eddie and Danny Walton.

Mary was a hard working mother who raised her children by herself.  She enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible and spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed riding in the car and in airplanes.  Her first time flying was at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Rash and Rev. Charles Bristol.  Burial will follow in the Bald Mtn. Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Walton will lie in state from 4:30 – 6:30 pm Wednesday, Dec. 22nd at Badger Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm prior to the service Thursday at Badger Funeral Home.  The family asks that a mask be worn if attending the services.

Mrs. Walton is survived by her son, Rev. J. D. Walton and wife Barbara of Todd, daughter, Judy Miller and husband Jack of Jefferson, 10 grandchildren, Larry, Kelly, Jeff, Amy, Kayla, Seth, Daniel, Brittany, Adam and James.  8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
