Lea Ella South, age 86 of West Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at her home. Mrs. South was born on May 17, 1937 to the late Richard and Carrie Grubb Howell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, three brothers, Edison Howell, Everett Howell, Earnest Howell, three sisters, Wilma Wood, Maggie Hamm and Louise Witherspoon.

Lea Ella's devout love for the Lord was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her every step with unwavering faith. Each day, she found solace and inspiration within the pages of her cherished Bible, drawing wisdom and comfort from its timeless teachings. Her devout spirituality illuminated her path and touched the lives of those around her.

Beyond her spiritual devotion, Lea Ella found joy in simple pleasures and cherished moments. Her love for word puzzle books, the gentle melodies of her harmonica, and the captivating stories found within Amish literature were reflections of her appreciation for life's quiet beauty.

A woman of remarkable intellect and a sharp mind, Lea Ella possessed a memory that could weave through the tapestry of time. Her storytelling prowess was legendary, as she regaled her family with tales of yesteryears, painting vivid pictures of cherished memories and timeless adventures.

Above all, Lea Ella Howell South was the embodiment of love in its purest form. As a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her love knew no bounds. Her nurturing spirit and boundless affection provided an anchor for her family, fostering a legacy of love and unity that will endure through generations.

In the hearts of those she leaves behind, Lea Ella's legacy will forever shine as a beacon of love, faith, and unwavering devotion. Though she may have bid us farewell from this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the cherished memories and enduring love she leaves behind.

Mrs. South is survived by, her husband, Floyd South, four daughters, Teresa Barnes (Ronnie) of Taylorsville, Robin Privette (Eric) of Jefferson, Elaine Johnson (Brandon) of Wilkes and Jennifer South of the home, two sisters, Myrtle Adams of Taylorsville and Leona Jarvis of West Jefferson, four grandchildren, Chris Barnes (Deann) of Conover, Andy Calhoun (Ashley) of West Jefferson, Quinn Privette (Rose) of West Jefferson, Leah Ingersoll (Jared) of West Jefferson, four great-grandchildren, Owen Calhoun, Mariella Calhoun, Emmaline Ingersoll, and Lucy Ingersoll; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Calloway Cemetery by Minister Quinn Privette.
