Joseph Shannon Parsons

Joseph Shannon Parsons, age 53 of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at his home in Hickory, North Carolina.  Mr. Parsons was born on March 2, 1968 in Sparta, North Carolina to Roger Lee Parsons Sr. and Linda Kaye Reedy Parsons.  He was preceded in death by both his maternal grandparents, Joe and Eva Reedy as well as paternal grandparents, Warren McKinney and Virginia Eldreth Parsons.

Shannon, also given the nickname "Hillbilly Bear" enjoyed hunting, shooting and spending time outdoors.  He loved spending time with his family.  Mr. Parsons attended both Wilkes Community College as well as Appalachian State University, graduating with a Master's Degree in History.  Shannon was employed by Eckerd Connections in Boomer, NC.  He will be remembered as a "Gentle Giant", a humble man that would tell you what he thought.

Mr. Parsons is survived by his parents, Roger Lee Parsons Sr. and Linda Kaye Reedy Parsons of Hickory, sister, Sherri Smith and husband Mark of Ferguson, brother, Roger Lee Parsons Jr. of Wilkesboro, two nephews, Grayson Parsons and Tristen Smith, one niece, Autumn Smith and one great-niece, Audrey Thayse.

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 3:00pm at the Parsons Cemetery by Rev. Joe Sturgill.

Anyone attending the graveside service that would like to join the family in procession, please meet at Badger Funeral Home at 2:00pm.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the family and friends who offered support during this difficult time.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Badger Funeral Home in West Jefferson, North Carolina was entrusted with Mr. Parsons' arrangements.
