Iona (Handy) Rutherford

Iona Handy Rutherford, age 92 of Grassy Creek, died on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Margate Health and Rehab. Mrs. Rutherford was born on June 28, 1928 in Ashe County to Troy Curtis Handy and Carrie Belle Phipps Handy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Harding Rutherford, a grandson, Timothy Rutherford, and all her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Rutherford was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Hanes Knit Products. She enjoyed spending time on the farm.

She is survived by:  one son, William Fred Rutherford and wife Wanda of Grassy Creek; also surviving are three grandchildren, five great-grandsons, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. Lloyd Day.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Grassy Creek Baptist Church.
