Effie Ellamae (McCoy) Turnmire

Effie McCoy Turnmire, age 87 of Jefferson, died Monday, October 25, 2021 at her home.  Mrs. Turnmire was born June 5, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Quince and Lizzie Combs McCoy.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Major Turnmire, her second husband, Riley Turnmire, son in laws, Charlie Farmer and Darrell Holman, grandchildren, Amanda, Shellie and Kellie Farmer and sister, Martha Shepherd.

Mrs. Turnmire love quilting, gardening and cooking.  She was a faithful member of Living by Faith Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Effie always told anyone she met that she loved them.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. William Greer, Rev. J. D. Walton, Rev. Danny Osborne and great-grandson, Caleb Greer.  Burial will follow in the West Jefferson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 pm Friday at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Turnmire is survived by, one son, Worth Turnmire of Sparta, six daughters, Mary Farmer of Jefferson, Shelby Holman of Grassy Creek, Marie Goss (Tony) and Brenda Sheets all of Jefferson, Laura Dillard (Bobby) of Crumpler and Linda Turnmire of Lansing, two step-sons, Tim Roten (Alicia) of Jefferson and Mark Turnmire of West Jefferson, one stepdaughter, Penny Knobel (Rob) of Jefferson, sister, Mary Latham of Wilkesboro and brother, Everette McCoy of West Jefferson. 24 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will be meeting at the home of Bobby and Laura Dillard at 550 Greensboro Rd. in Crumpler.
