Earl Dean Sturgill, better known as Dean, of Lansing, son of Fitzhugh Carl and Blannie Emaline Spencer Sturgill, was born October 14, 1934 in Ashe County; passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021, at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John Sturgill, Breece Sturgill, and Rev. Paul Sturgill, and two sisters, Neva Nobles and Ruth Sturgill.
Mr. Sturgill was an outdoorsman who appreciated nature and enjoyed hunting and trapping. He was a self taught fiddle player and played with the Grayson Highlands Band. He enjoyed communicating by letters and remembering the past and people and their connections.
Mr. Sturgill married Phyllis Walls and two sons were born to this union. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Greely Sturgill and wife Dawn of Zionville and Johnny Sturgill of Lansing; two grandchildren, Logan Sturgill and Lindsey Sturgill; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Elder Lundy Finley. Burial will follow in the Spencer Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2021 prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
