Charles Brantley Burkett

Charles Brantley Burkett, age 86 of Jefferson passed away August 12, 2020 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Born in 1934 to Brantley and Pearl Weaver Burkett, he served in the US Army during the Korean War. After discharge from the Army, he returned home where he met and married his wife of 63 years, Ann.

Charles was a devout man of God, beginning and ending his working years by helping in the church; first as a young boy, then again after he retired. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who never knew a stranger. Those who met him never forgot his friendly smile and quick sense of humor. He was an avid Tarheels fan, and loved being out of doors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening until his declining health did not allow.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Harold Burkett, two sisters Dairliene Fields and Patsy Stanley, as well as two nephews Randall Burkett and Rick Fields.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Ken Jones and Rev. David Cooper.

Surviving are his wife Ann, two sons Greg (Mary) of Pan Handle, TX; Jeff (Glenda) ofJefferson; two daughters-Pam Miller (Mark) of Jefferson and Lisa Lambert (Ivan) of West Jefferson; three grandchildren, Jacob Burkett, Dr. Myra Davis (BJ), and Evan Lambert; three step-grandchildren, Hunter, Mason and Ashley; one great-grandchild Brody;  three step great-grandchildren, Jordan, Cameron and Maddie.

Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Frank Stanley of Cary, NC and Donald Bauguess (Lessie) of Rugby, VA; one sister-in-law, Dare Neugent, of Independence, VA, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church renovation fund (891 Friendship Baptist Church Rd., Jefferson, NC 28640).
