Benny Thomas McNeill

Benny Thomas McNeill, age 68 of Fleetwood, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. Mr. McNeill was born on September 16, 1952 in Watauga County to the late Walter "Worth" and Elda Lena McNeill.

Mr. McNeill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rita McNeill of the home; sons, Allen McNeill and wife Laura of Fleetwood, Jimmy McNeill and wife Misty of West Jefferson, and Tommy McNeill of West Jefferson; granddaughters, Delaney, Vail, and Cora McNeill and grandson, Colton McNeill, all of Fleetwood.

Mr. McNeill worked as a mail carrier in Fleetwood for over 30 years. He was also a dedicated dairy farmer in his younger days. His greatest accomplishment came as his role as "Poppy" to his four grandchildren, which he absolutely adored. He loved spending time with his family, working in the hayfields, hunting, and trading and working on guns. He enjoyed playing checkers and hardly ever lost a game. Mr. McNeill attended church at Mission Home Baptist Church while his health allowed.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Mission Home Baptist Church by Pastor Evan Moore and Pastor Bryan Miller. Burial will follow in the Gap Creek Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2021 prior to the funeral service at Mission Home Baptist Church.
