William L. Speedie

William L. Speedie, age 84 of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Mr. Speedie was born on December 4, 1939 in Ontario Canada.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy.

Mr. Speedie is survived by his wife, Joyce Speedie, three children, Richard Speedie of Fort Drum, NY, Mrs. Pete Montgomery (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC and Scott Speedie of Clayton, NC, three brothers, John Speedie, Jim Speedie, Bob Speedie and one sister, Mrs. Jack Hunter (Marilyn) all of Canada.

Mr. Speedie moved to the States when he was 27 years old. He spent most of his life working for Southern Bell Telephone Company, in High Point, Boone, Banner Elk and Charlotte where he retired as system engineer.

After retiring he and his wife joined a Christian group called Campers on Mission.  This is a group of mostly retired professionals that own RVs and travel over America.  They volunteer to help build churches when they do not have money to pay for labor.   The church request must go through the North America Mission Board where it is reviewed.  Mr. and Mrs. Speedie have met and made so many friends serving the Lord this way.

After moving to Jefferson, Mr. Speedie worked with Baptist men helping build ramps for handicap people in the community and other projects as needed.  He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
