Master Sergeant William Lester May, age 91 of Jefferson, died on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Ashe County to Marvin and Grace Ragan May. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Rupard May; sisters, Edna May, Nancy Pagan, and Mildred Green; brothers, Bradley May, Sam May, Walt May, and Bobby May.
Master Sergeant May served our country for 21 years. Four of those years were spent in the Navy, the remainder in the Air Force. He loved telling stories of his travels. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening to music, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid solitaire player.
Master Sergeant May is survived by: three daughters, Shawna May and boyfriend Michael Wilson, Terry Blevins and husband Billy, and Sandy Shatley and husband Tim; seven grandchildren, Noah Leeper, Trajan Wellington, Kyra Lackey, Fran Walters, Charity Shatley, Lakota Blevins, and Tanner Blevins; five great-grandchildren, Boston, October, Riley, Ellie, and Huck; also surviving are four nieces, Joy, Julia, Rebecca and Linda. He is also survived by his beloved family dog, Brownie May.
Funeral services will be private.
