Virginia Frances Johnson Finegan

Virginia peacefully passed in her sleep on September 7, 2025 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living Facility at the age of 94.

She was born on May 1, 1931 in Somerville, AL to Ralph and Dollie Talley Johnson. She was raised on a farm in Tennessee with her four sisters Kathleen Blakey, Willie Bishop, Helen Smith, and is survived by her sister Marylin Hutchinson of Alabama. She went on to live many places during her life, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Georgia and North Carolina.

She married her husband, Paul in 1952, and was with him until his passing in April 2024. After his passing, she moved from Buncombe County to Ashe County in July of 2024.

She was mother to seven children; daughter Mary Markert and husband Bob of Colorado, son Paul of Pennsylvania, daughter Frances of Georgia, daughter Sheila Gifford and husband Gibby of Georgia, son Sean of New Hampshire, son Peter and wife Shirley of North Carolina, and daughter Winifred Weng and husband Chuan of Georgia. She was “Nanny” to thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She devoted her life to raising her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. After her children were raised, she enjoyed working as a seamstress and later as a hostess for Wendy’s. She enjoyed her many dogs she had throughout her life. She enjoyed her many friendships she formed with fellow employees and church members and would keep in contact with family and friends weekly and sometimes daily by phone as long as she was able.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jefferson, North Carolina.
