Virginia Emerson Elliott

Virginia Emerson Elliott, age 84 of Lansing, departed from this world peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Virginia. She was born in Lansing on Sunday, June 1, 1941 to the late Larry Woodrow and Hattie Lou Waddell Emerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Wayne Elliott.

Virginia was a woman of quiet strength and gentle kindness. She enjoyed sewing, tending her garden, and working among her beautiful flowers. A devoted member of Wolf Knob Baptist Church, she faithfully served alongside her husband for many years, sharing her faith through her actions and her love for others. Virginia’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Whether gathered around a delicious meal she had prepared or cherishing simple moments together, those times were among the most important to her. She always wanted to make sure people were fed and had plenty of food, and she was especially known for her delicious molasses stack cake that family and friends looked forward to enjoying.

Her life reflected the words of Proverbs 31: “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness… Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her… favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” Virginia’s hands worked faithfully, her heart loved deeply, and her life was a testimony to her faith in God.

The Elliott family expresses deep gratitude to Virginia’s, brother, Mark Emerson, and the compassionate staff at Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center for their unwavering support and care.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by one daughter, Charlotte Peak and husband Roger of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia; one son, Michael Elliott and wife Tracie of Lansing; four brothers, Buddy Emerson of White Top, Virginia, Steven Emerson of Jefferson, Rex Emerson of West Jefferson, and Mark Emerson of Independence, Virginia; and one sister, Bernice Emerson of Lansing. She is also survived by two grandsons, Joshua Peak and wife Kelly, and Daniel Peak and wife Heather; five great-grandchildren, Jayna, Jace, Kaelyn, Aaron, and Caleb Peak; along with several nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Mitchell Mash and Rev. John Hall—a date that would have marked her and her beloved husband’s 65th wedding anniversary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Spencer Branch Community Cemetery.
