Crumpler

Trula Lewis Worley

Trula Worley's cancer came on hard and fast, stripping her of her career, her usual routine, her everyday joys, and her incredible humor and wit, expressed through her mountain "colloquialisms". What an icon of uniqueness and strength!

Trula, 85 of Crumpler, passed peacefully into eternity Wednesday night, October 1. Born on May 19, 1940, in Creston, NC. She was a devoted mother, stepmother, and grandmother and a pillar of faith in her community and church. She demonstrated her concern for others by caregiving for numerous individuals after her retirement from Thomasville Furniture. She was a familiar face in local assisted living facilities as she spent many hours visiting both friends and strangers. Trula was always active in church activities by planning "senior" trips, cooking delicious food for fellowship meals or shut-ins, serving as a greeter, or supporting children's ministries. She was a guiding light, always ready with wise words, an encouraging smile, and a comforting embrace.

Trula is survived by her son, David Barlow of West Jefferson and “adopted” son Bobby Henley. David’s children, Paula McNeill and Jenny Francis; also has five stepchildren: Sunny Willard of Winston Salem; Barbara Lawrence of West Jefferson; Melba Johnson (Ron) of Jefferson; Jim Worley (Karen) of Hayes, NC; and Ron Worley (Lillian) of West Jefferson; and Norman Greer, a devoted companion for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years-Conley Worley. Trula has one sister Faye and Reed Osborne, and was preceded in death by her brother James. She also has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Beaver Creek Christian Church in West Jefferson at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 5th by Rev. Loren Lung with a time for sharing cherished memories about Trula and her precious life. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, and a meal will be served afterwards in the church fellowship hall for family and friends. The family requests that no food be taken to the home; If you wish to prepare food, please take it to the fellowship hall to be served at this meal.

Donations can be made to Beaver Creek Christian Church, 1678 Beaver Creek School Rd. West Jefferson, NC 28694 or to the Gideon's International, PO Box 993, West Jefferson, NC 28694. Since Trula loved any type of flowers, they would also be appreciated.

Though she lost her battle with cancer, she did not lose the battle that counts. Her perfect healing is in Heaven, but her life on earth reminded all those around her what it means to be a true warrior of faith. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with those she loved who passed before her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her love and wisdom will always guide us.
