In Loving Memory of

Steve Randall Stutts

10-25-1959 – 12-29-2023

Steve Randall Stutts, a beloved father, husband, and friend passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born on October 25, 1959, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Joseph Ed Stutts and Hester Elvie Howell.  In addition to his parents Steve was also preceded in death by his step-father, David Langdon.

Steve found his greatest joy in fatherhood, cherishing every moment spent with his daughter, Ashton. A devoted husband, he shared 25 years of unwavering love and companionship with his soulmate, Karen Hall. His friendships were deep and enduring, as he touched many lives with his kindness and support.

Steve was raised in and around Sharpsburg NC and graduated from Elm City High School and remained close with his classmates throughout his life.  His academic achievements were quietly achieved as he craved learning and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Atlantic Christian College in 1982, followed by the attainment of a master's degree in business administration from Campbell University in 1987.

He started his career at Walter Kidde after graduating and joined Burroughs Wellcome in Greenville, NC in 1988 where he had a long and successful career.  His entrepreneurial spirit led him to build his own company North and South Logistics and he was highly regarded in the Logistics industry which is a testament to his dedication, honesty and vision. His latest work has been with Flock Freight which he greatly enjoyed.

His pursuits extended beyond academia; he was on a never-ending quest to find the best BBQ in the Southeast, a connoisseur of literature and philosophy and was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and UNC sports teams.

A prolific writer, Steve's blog, "Making Ends Meat," showcased his tremendous talent and insight which he referred to as ‘simple ramblings about life in the south’.  He was a guiding light for young minds, dedicating himself to mentoring and nurturing the potential of the next generation. His love for philosophy, avid pursuit of chess, and adoration for the music of John Prine reflected his multifaceted interests and passions.

Deeply compassionate, Steve advocated tirelessly for the welfare of both humans and animals, believing fervently that everyone deserved good food and shelter.

After moving to Ashe County with Karen in 2008 they started Tucker Farm where he learned to weld, make maple syrup and apple butter.  He loved to care for the many donkeys, goats, horses, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats they have adopted and rescued over the years.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Karen Hall, one daughter, Ashton Stutts of Wilson, NC, brother, Jody Stutts (Marian) of Youngsville, NC, the mother of his daughter, Carla Stutts of Elm City, NC, nieces, Leigh Ann Stutts-Weullner, Claire Thams, Carrie Thams, Lauren Thams and Jessica Hall, Lauren Cabebe and nephews, Joseph Stutts,Kevin Stutts, Isaac Hall, Seth Hall, Braden Hall, Alex Hall and Kyle Chu, sister-in-law, Julie Kukuruda (Tom), brother-in-law’s, Rick Hall (Anne) and Brad Hall (Connie), also survive.
