Shirley Ann Darnell

Shirley Ann Darnell, age 67 of Jefferson, passed away on Friday, June 30th 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Shirley was born on March 3, 1956 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Roy Edison Dayton and Lethella Blevins.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kansas Darnell.

Through Shirley's life she developed a passion for sewing. Her talent and meticulous craftsmanship allowed her to create stunning and unique pieces of clothing that not only showcased her creativity but also brought joy to those who wore them. With every stitch, she wove her love and care into her creations, leaving a lasting legacy of her talent.  She worked as a seamstress locally for Haynes as well as B&B Swimwear and also as a cook at the legendary Shatley Springs Restaurant.  Shirley was deeply committed to her faith as well.  Her involvement in the ministry was a testament to her compassionate nature and her unwavering belief in the power of love and kindness.  Her love for her church was evident as she actively participated in worship and various other church activities.  Shirley's memory will forever be cherished by both her family, and friends.  Although she may no longer be physically present with us, her legacy of love, creativity, and devotion will continue to touch lives for generations to come.

Mrs. Darnell is survived by her husband, Max Darnell, son, Cody Darnell and wife, Deva of West Jefferson, two grandchildren, Addilyn Brooke Darnell and Lake Maxwell Darnell, close friends, Debbie Badger, Amy Jones, Nathan Jones and Marie Jones also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm, on Monday July 10th at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Rick Miller.  The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00pm one hour prior to the service.
