Shelby Jean Blevins Stuart

Shelby Jean Blevins Stuart, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was born on April 8, 1937, in Grassy Creek, North Carolina, to the late James Oscar and Blanche Brooks Blevins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James Mervin Blevins and infant Arnold Blevins; an infant sister, Joyce Blevins; her beloved husband of 56 years, Edward Mitchell “Mick” Stuart; her loving grandson, Nicholas Ryan Shepherd; and her son-in-law, Archie Mac Roberts.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debbie Stuart Miller (Michael) and Lisa Stuart both of Lansing, NC. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Amanda Hodges (Bobby) of Westminster, SC, and Laniece Holman (Dustin) of Winnabow, NC; as well as four great-grandchildren: Justice Malachi Hodges, Silas Mitchell Hodges, Alexandra Ryann Holman, and Emmaline James Holman. A special son-in-law, Jerry Shepherd, also survives her, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Shelby was a devout Christian and a woman of unwavering faith. In the 1950s, she accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized, and became a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her decisions, shaping her character, and offering her strength through both joyful and challenging times. Later, she joined Silas Creek Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until her health declined and she could no longer attend services in person, though her faith remained strong and steadfast.

On July 4, 1958, Shelby married the love of her life, Edward Mitchell “Mick” Stuart, in a simple and heartfelt ceremony at the home of Elder Earl and Bessie Sexton. Their union was one of true devotion and partnership. Over the course of 56 years of marriage, they built a home rooted in love and faith. Together, they raised two daughters and shared many memories extended through their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shelby was a hard worker, known for her dedication and dependability. She spent more than 30 years working at Hanes, which later became Sara Lee, where she formed lifelong friendships and earned the respect of her coworkers. After retiring from Hanes/Sara Lee, she briefly worked at B&B Swimwear. However, when her husband’s health began to decline, Shelby made the selfless decision to leave the workforce to care for him full-time. Her devotion during those years was a true testament to her love, strength, and commitment to family.
