Sallie Blanche Jones Turner, age 89 of Warrensville, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at her home. Mrs. Turner was born on December 8, 1935 in Ashe County to the late Charles Lee Jones and Gertie Mae Eldreth Jones. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Turner.
Sallie Turner lived a life rooted in love, faith, and the simple joys of home and family. She found great happiness in working with her hands and nurturing what she loved. Crocheting, canning, and gardening filled many of her days, and tending both flower and vegetable gardens was a hobby she lovingly shared with her late husband. Among her greatest joys was raising African violets. Before Hurricane Helene, her home was graced with more than 100 of these beautiful plants, each a testament to her patience, care, and steady devotion.
Family was the heart of Sallie’s world. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who helped keep her spirit young. Her grandchildren fondly remember swinging in the swing on her carport, a simple place filled with laughter, stories, and lasting memories. Sallie always welcomed a good visit with family and friends, believing no one should ever leave her home hungry. When it came to meaningful conversation and shared time, she never rushed—time was never as important as the visit itself.
Above all, Sallie’s life was guided by her faith. Worshiping and praising her Lord brought her great joy, and she deeply loved attending Baptist Chapel Church. In her younger years, she was known as a joyful “shouter,” openly praising her God and Savior with a heart full of devotion. Her faith was not only something she practiced, but something she lived, leaving behind a legacy of love, hospitality, and unwavering belief.
Mrs. Turner is survived by: one daughter, Diana McClure (Tommy) of Lansing; one son, Danny Turner of Warrensville; two brothers, Charlie Jones, Jr., better known as “June” of Warrensville and James Jones, better known as “Jim” of West Jefferson; also surviving are six grandchildren, Amanda Bloomer, Carrie Blevins, Erin Hayes, Ethan Turner, Emily Gentry and Elan Turner, eleven great-grandchildren, Bethany Bloomer, Natalie Bloomer, Rayna Blevins, Maylee Blevins, Laylen Hayes, Levi Hayes, Leo Hayes, Hadley Spears, Graham Turner, Bowen Turner, Braxtyn Gentry and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tommy McClure. Burial will follow in the Jones-Ashley Cemetery.
