Richard Alan Goodman

Richard Alan Goodman, better known as Alan, age 65 of Laurel Springs, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at his home with family and close friends by his side. Mr. Goodman was born on November 10, 1960 in Ashe County to Joseph Calvin and Vivian Wyatt Goodman, both of whom preceded him in death.

With a generous heart and a giving spirit, Alan was the kind of man who would offer you the shirt off his back without a second thought. His quiet kindness, steady presence, and deep love for his family touched everyone who knew him.

Alan enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and the outdoors. He found joy in hunting, fishing, going to the island, driving the back roads, and playing golf. Time spent with family—right down to his nieces and nephews—meant the world to him, and he cherished every moment shared together.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Alan worked in the field for over 30 years. His craftsmanship, dedication, and pride in his work left a lasting mark in the homes and projects he helped build throughout the community.

Mr. Goodman is survived by: his wife, Daphne Jennings Goodman; son, Joe Goodman (Roxanne) of Raleigh; daughter, Alycia Richardson (Cody) of Grassy Creek; son, Austin Goodman (Makala Reed) of the home; stepson, Donnie Cardwell of Elizabethton, TN; stepdaughter, Amy Paisley of Mountain City, TN; brother, Don Goodman of Winston Salem; three sisters, Joyce Carroway (Keith) of West Jefferson, Brenda Garland (Jerry) of West Jefferson, and Linda Harless of Jefferson; ten grandchildren, Lupin Goodman, Evan Bledsoe, Connor Richardson, Maddison Richardson, Leo Goodman, Jayden Cardwell, Railey Cardwell, Nevaeh Cardwell, Hunter Paisley, and Lakaya Paisley; two aunts, Toy Wyatt and Anna Mae Goodman, an uncle, Roger Wyatt (Julie) and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 U.S. Highway 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.
