Rev. Marvin Junior Miller, better known as Junior, age 93 of Lansing, entered Heaven—a place he faithfully preached about for many years—on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Amorem Hospice House in Hudson.
Junior was born on April 7, 1932, in West Virginia to the late Marvin and Lola Shatley Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Joe Miller, and sisters, Gladys Jones and Louise Lyall.
On October 15, 1954, Junior married the love of his life, Shelby, and together they shared 71 wonderful years of marriage. He worked for much of his life as a skilled carpenter, building houses from the coast of North Carolina to New York. In his twenties, Junior received the call of the Lord to enter the ministry. Answering that call with a faithful heart, he pastored several congregations over the years, including Greens Chapel Baptist Church, Shelter Baptist Church, Mouth of Wilson Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, Sugar Tree Baptist Church, and Big Springs Baptist Church.
Junior loved to travel and see new places, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He treasured every visit from loved ones and friends, always welcoming them with kindness and love.
Rev. Miller is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Neaves Miller, two daughters, Glenda Reedy (Tony) of Grassy Creek, Janet Church (Kenny) of Port Richie, FL, three grandchildren, Kenny Church, Jennifer Anderson and Steven Church, seven great-grandchildren, Bennett Church, Bailey Church, Jordan Nemeth, Dylan Anderson, Conner Church, McKenna Church and Brenna Church, two great-great-grandchildren, Juliana and Emmie, and one sister, Jean Miller. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and Junior’s best friend, Larry Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Louis Young. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am one hour prior to the service.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving family man, faithful servant of the Lord, and a pastor who shared the Gospel with passion and sincerity.
