Ray Junior Maye age 71, left this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 21st 2025. Ray Junior was born on November 29th 1953 to Bill and Thelma Maye of Warrensville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Tucker and Betty Lewis, one brother-in -law, Von Delp and one nephew, Chris Maye.
Ray Jr. was a naturalist. He loved the woods and just being outside listening to the birds sing in the spring after a long winter and watching the woods coming to life again. He enjoyed nothing more than being in a tree stand on a frosty morning, waiting for that trophy buck to come by. He also loved the excitement of grouse hunting. He was an avid outdoorsman as long as he was physically able. He was a hard worker not only growing trees on his own land but was employed with New River Tree Farm for several years as well.
He also enjoyed reading, especially his Bible and Louis Lamour westerns. He loved watching Gunsmoke on TV as well. He enjoyed history and was very knowledgeable about many historical subjects. He was a near expert on makes and models of guns with his favorites being Colts and Remingtons. He could take them apart and put them back together with ease.
Ray Jr. loved his Lord, he was saved in 1970 and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church where he remained a member until his death. He loved his family and friends and He shared his faith with them. He enjoyed gospel music, especially the original Chuck Wagon Gang.
He was a special uncle and brother. Although he never had any children of his own he was very involved in all of his nieces and nephews lives as they were growing up. Always taking the time to play, to go camping, hunting or fishing, sleigh riding and make videos of precious childhood moments. Ray’s passing leaves a void in our hearts but we take comfort in knowing that he truly wanted to go on to heaven to be his Lord and loved ones gone on before. We rejoice to know that he is free from pain and worries and resting in the presence of his Savior!
Ray is survived by two brothers, Benny (Maxine) Maye of Warrensville and Jerry (Kathy) Maye of Rugby Virginia. Also survived by three sisters, Judy Delp of Jefferson, Barbara (Rick) Woodie of West Jefferson and Linda (Larry) Stanley of Warrensville. Special Nephews, Ben Maye, Brad Lewis, Kevin Maye, Nathan Wagoner and Travis Stanley. And Two Special Nieces, Shelia Trevathan and Sharon Brookshire.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 12:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. George Grubb. Burial will follow in the Maye Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm, one hour prior to the service.
