Paul Allen Stike, better known as “Jay”, age 88 of Warrensville, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stike was born on August 27, 1937 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late William Moses and Hattie Turnmire Stike. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Howard Stike, Ray Stike, Lee Stike and Riley Stike.
Jay had a deep love for the woods and the work they provided. Logging was his way of life. He found joy and purpose in working alongside his family in the timber, where the smell of fresh-cut wood and the sound of saws became the rhythm of his days. He took great pride in a hard day’s work and cherished the time spent with those he loved most among the trees.
Even when he wasn’t working, Jay found peace in simply walking through the woods—listening to the wind in the branches, taking in the quiet beauty of nature, and finding comfort in the land he knew so well.
Mr. Stike is survived by his wife, Anna Jean Turnmire Stike, three sons, James Stike (Jennifer) and David Stike both of Warrensville and Tim Stike of Fleetwood, one brother, Fred Stike of Warrensville and two sisters, Gaye Turnmire and Mae Medley both of Warrensville. Also survivng are three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will follow in the Turner Cemetery.
The family respectfully requests no food or flowers please; memorial contributions may be made to the family ℅ Ashelawn Memorial Chapel; 3470 US Highway 221 N. Jefferson, NC 28640.
His love for the outdoors will be remembered by all who knew him—and every quiet walk through the woods will bring his memory close again.
