Pamela “Pam” Elizabeth Ham Day

Pamela Elizabeth Ham Day better known as Pam, age 69, of West Jefferson and the Claybank Community, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Elkton, Maryland on Thursday, July 5, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Barney Bruce Ham and Buryl June Baldwin Ham. Pam grew up with strong roots in her community, roots she carried with her throughout her life and passed down to those she loved most.

At the heart of Pam’s life was her beloved husband, Danny Day. The two shared a remarkable love story meeting at just 12 years old, growing up side by side, and celebrating 52 years of marriage after building a life together for 57 years. Their bond was one of steadfast companionship, laughter, and unwavering support.

Pam was a devoted mother to her four children: Teresa Ann Day Penegar (Kelly) and Angela Marie Day Brooks (Shawn), both of Laurel Springs; Danielle Nicole Day Dougherty (Paul) of Warrensville; and Michael Walter Day (Kassee) of Crumpler. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, Max and Marshall Penegar; Acacia Marie and Zach Brooks; Benjamin Ray, Carson Paul, and Harper Grace Dougherty; and Asher and Jace Day; each of whom brought her immense joy.

She is further survived by her sisters, Polly Gilley (Jerry) and Trisha Worley (Robert), both of Jefferson, along with several nieces and nephews.

Pam found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved being outdoors, tending to her flowers, riding four-wheelers, and relaxing while watching her “stories,” as she affectionately called her daytime soap operas. She and Danny also enjoyed “loafing,” antiquing, and spending quiet time together. Nothing made Pam happier than having her family gathered around her table, enjoying a home-cooked meal. True to her selfless nature, she was always the first to cook and the last to eat, making sure everyone else was taken care of.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Pam read her Bible daily and found great comfort and fellowship in her church family at Sturgills Baptist Church. Her quiet strength, kindness, and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew her.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Amorem Hospice nurses and staff, Medi Home Health, and to all who brought food, sent donations, and offered prayers during Pam’s illness. Your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, with Rev. JD Walton and Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. A private family burial will follow in the Day Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

The family respectfully requests no food, please. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Day Cemetery Fund, c/o Danny Day, 1296 Claybank Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Pam’s life was one defined by devotion to her faith, her family, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
