Mary Magaline Gilley Jones, age 96 of Creston, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Sunday, September 28, 2025. She was born on October 24, 1928, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late Arthur and Mary Catherine Willis Gilley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Jones, a son, Jessie Jones, brothers, Bill, Dewey and Roger Gilley, and sisters, Lena Mae Thomas and Bessie Brown. Mary was the eldest of ten siblings and a steady, loving presence to her large family throughout her life.
Mary found joy in simple, meaningful work. She was an accomplished quilter, a devoted gardener, and took pride in keeping her firewood neatly stacked and ready for winter. A gifted cook, she delighted in preparing meals for family and friends—always sure that no one left her table hungry.
A faithful member of Clifton Baptist Church, Mary served actively as long as her health allowed. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine love for others were evident to all who knew her; to meet Mary was to feel welcomed and cherished.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons, Jim Jones of Warrensville and Ben Jones (Gail) of Creston, one daughter, Carol Pugh (Daniel) of Creston, two brothers, Alvin Gilley of Ohio, Jerry Gilley of Virginia, two sisters, Lorraine Brown of Virginia and Bertha Jean Pendergrass of West Virginia. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mark Jones, James Jones, Katie Hodge (Jason) and Courtney Jones, two great-grandchildren, Allie and Gray as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 3:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Larry Powers and Rev. J.C. Darnell. Burial will follow in the Clint Gilley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm one hour prior to the service at Ashelawn.
Flowers will be accepted. The family respectfully requests no food please.
Mrs. Jones will be remembered with deep love by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
