Marlene Absher Brooks, age 72 of Crumpler, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Watauga Medical Center. She was born in Ashe County on Friday, December 19, 1952 to the late, Clarence Clayton and Jessie Leona Severt.

Marlene was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, which brought her the greatest joy. Known for her talent and creativity, Marlene loved quilting and spent many happy hours sewing beautiful pieces for those she loved. She also enjoyed antiquing and had a special appreciation for flowers, often tending to her own garden with care and pride.

She was a woman of faith and attended Scottsville Baptist Church when her health allowed. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and love for life will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by: daughter, Charita Cozart of Crumpler, son, Shannon Brooks of Arizona, two sisters, Brenda Atwood (Dewayne) of Sparta, Lynn Powers (Larry) of Laurel Springs, two grandchildren, Tiffany Cozart and Skylar Dillard. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 11:30 am in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens by Pastor Tommy Wurth.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
