Margaret Anne Johnson Shinn

Margaret Anne Johnson Shinn, age 79, of Crumpler, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. Born in Greeneville, Tennessee, on March 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Sue Jerrell Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Billy Ray Johnson.

Margaret was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and loyal friend. She is survived by her husband, Clifford "Gene" Shinn; sons, William "Tater" Shinn and Tommy Shinn (Robbin); brothers, Mike Johnson (Dottie), John Johnson, Gary Johnson (Lisa), and Guy Johnson (Nina); grandchildren, Amber, Daniel, Blake, and Dakota Shinn; step-grandchildren, Shiva and Josh Shayegh, Christina Kelly, and Amanda Vido; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will all cherish her memory.

Margaret had a lifelong passion for plants and flowers, dedicating 38 years of her life to Turtle Creek Nursery. Her expertise and dedication earned her membership in the International Plant Propagators' Society. Outside of work, she found joy in quilting, reading, fishing, and spending time with her family.

A faithful member of New River Baptist Church, Margaret especially enjoyed creating crafts for Vacation Bible School each year. She was known for her honesty, her deep love for others, and her straightforward spirit—you never had to wonder where you stood with her. If she loved you, you knew it.

Margaret's generous spirit continued beyond her passing; she chose to donate her body to science in hopes of helping others.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, officiated by Preacher Bobby Jones and Rev. Wayne Jones. The family will receive friends following the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Margaret’s love for nature by planting a tree or flower in her memory.
