Margaret Dare Pennington Lipford

Margaret Dare Pennington Lipford, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Generations Ashe Assisted Living Center.

Margaret was born in Ashe County on June 11, 1944, to the late Rudy and Danford Graybeal Pennington. She spent her life deeply rooted in the community she loved, forming lasting friendships wherever she went.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Lipford; her son, Terry Lipford; her brothers, Earnest, Ralph, Tom, and Herbert Pennington; her sisters, Pauline Mahaffey, Iva Lee Smithy, Norma Wade, and Ellarea Vanover; and an infant sibling.

Margaret was known for her strong work ethic and joyful spirit. She worked for over 20 years at the West Jefferson Walmart, where she served as a greeter and quickly became a familiar and friendly face to countless customers. She truly was the life of the party—always welcoming, cheerful, and ready with a smile. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, doing word search puzzles, and treasure hunting at flea markets.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Bob Lipford (Missy) of Zionville; daughters, Shelia Hoosier (Eddie), Donna Lipford, and Marcie Lipford, all of Creston; her longtime companion, Glenn Lewis of Creston; her sister, Barbara Roark of Creston; her brother, Clyde Pennington of Creston; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, officiated by Brother Anthony Roark and Elder Fred Richardson.

The family will meet at the home of her son, Bob Lipford, located at 22911 Hwy 88 West, Zionville.

The family respectfully requests no food. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion that will continue through her family for generations to come.
