Mae Mash Houck, age 95, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Watauga Medical Center. Mae was born in Ashe County on October 11, 1930, to the late Claude and Estell Eller Mash.

Mae lived her life as a shining example of Christian love and kindness. She deeply loved the Lord and faithfully read her Bible from cover to cover several times. Her faith guided her every step, and she never missed an opportunity to remind others of God’s love—always saying as you left her home, “I love you, and don’t forget Jesus.”
Known for her warm hospitality, Mae made sure no one ever left her house hungry. Her homemade bread was a favorite among family and friends and became a symbol of her giving heart. She loved her family dearly and cherished every moment spent together.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Houck (Sara) of Jefferson; one brother, Ken Mash (Carolyn) of Jefferson; grandchildren, Teneice Houck (Amanda) of Shallotte, Carissa Sheets (Trey) of West Jefferson, and James Patrick (Penny) of Albemarle; great-grandchildren, Mickenzie Day (Zeb Duvall), Aubrey Day, Abby Sheets, Trent Sheets, Trace Sheets, Maverick Moss, Jay Patrick (Shelby), Tyler Patrick, and Shelby Patrick; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ministry of Hope Church, 453 Ashe Park Road, Jefferson, NC 28640.
