Mabel McMillan, age 92, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 with her beloved daughter, Eika, son-in-law, Jeff, and grandson, Forrest, by her side.
She was born January 22, 1933 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to the late Federico and Matlide Pennington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Federico Pennington.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald McMillan of Crumpler, NC, whom she loved and cherished.
After being raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where she met her husband, Mabel's life was full of adventure while living in all parts of Central America and Venezuela. She treasured raising and caring for her family in these beautiful countries during their golden era. Mabel later lived in Miami, FL and then Crumpler, NC, her husband's hometown. Her idea of life was focusing on family, friends and God's creations. She loved gardening, animals, nature, reading books of all genres as well as listening to her favorite artist, Julio Iglesias. Mabel will be remembered as a very giving person with a heart of gold. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed. She will always be in our hearts and our memories for her wisdom, love and kindness.
Mrs. McMillan is survived by her daughter, Eika Knight and husband Jeff, as well as grandson, Forrest Knight, all of Raleigh. Also surviving are her four sisters: Lucy Pennington of Jacksonville, FL, Carmen Pennington of Los Angeles, CA, Arlette Pennington of Jacksonville, FL, and Eliuth Soto of Comayagua, Honduras; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Chestnut Hill Community Church Cemetery.
