Julia “Judy” Strange Randolph Morris (Hop) passed away January 10th, 2024 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born on December 8, 1940 in Alamo, Tennessee to the late Thelma and Happle Strange. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Randolph.
Judy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where she played in the symphony orchestra. She began her career at Alamo Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. After the loss of her first husband, she married Rev. Kennith Morris and moved to West Jefferson, NC with her four children. Miss Judy continued her kindergarten teaching career at West Jefferson Elementary for more than 30 years. Teaching, music, family, and serving her community were the cornerstones of her life. Her ministry at First Baptist with her husband, Ken Morris, has left an impactful legacy. Known for her incredible storytelling skills, people from all over would come to relish in her unique talents. Her vibrant, creative soul could be seen and heard, with her bright lipsticks and flashy jewelry. Miss Judy was known as “Hop Hop” to her beloved family. Hop was the name given to her by her grandchildren as she would hop on one leg to entertain them. Her love and commitment to her family was indescribable. People knew Judy for her laughter, her smile, and her ability to bring joy to any situation.
Judy is survived by her husband, Rev. Kennith Morris of West Jefferson, NC, four children, Tom Randolph (Cindy), Julie Morrow (Tom), Tim Randolph (Suzanne), Jim Bob Randolph (Keri), and her brother, Tommy Strange (LaMae). She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and her first great-grandchild that will join the family in May of 2024. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of West Jefferson on Sunday, January 14th, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Michael Lea presiding. Services will also be live-streamed through First Baptist Church’s Youtube page
A reception celebrating her life will take place from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm. A private graveside service will follow for close family at West Jefferson cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Miss Judy” scholarship fund or the music program, both at First Baptist Church, PO Box 180, West Jefferson, NC 28640
Miss Judy was the epitome of kindness and love for all.
