Jerry Wayne Houck

Jerry Wayne Houck, age 83, of Todd, NC passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Ashe County to the late, Everett Wayne and Eva Trivette Houck. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: son, Steve Houck, sister, Lavonne Swicegood and thee brothers, Rex Houck, Arless Houck and Rev. H.D. Houck.

A lover of the great outdoors, he found solace in the rhythm of chopping firewood. The crisp snap of logs and the scent of fresh-cut wood were sources of tranquility for him. Whether under the open sky or nestled by a crackling fireplace, he found peace in the act of connecting with nature.

An avid fan of Westerns, especially the timeless classic Gunsmoke, Jerry had a soft spot for tales of the frontier and the resilient characters that inhabited it. The dusty trails and moral dilemmas of the Old West were a source of entertainment and reflection for him.

Jerry's infectious laughter echoed through the air whenever a good joke was shared. His appreciation for humor, combined with a genuine and easygoing nature, endeared him to those fortunate enough to share a laugh in his company.

Mr. Houck is survived by: h is wife, Wilma Houck, son, Jeremy Houck (Christal) of West Jefferson, daughter, Nikki Houck of West Jefferson, daughter, Angela Miller (Brian) of West Jefferson, son, Ashley Houck (Regina) of Deep Gap, three grandchildren, Emma Gambill, Hunter Gambill, Jaxson Dillard, two step-grandchildren, Logan Houck, Abby Houck, three brothers, Don Houck (Barbara) of West Jefferson, Mike Houck (Susan), of Fleetwood, David Houck (Susan) of Fleetwood, three sisters, Barbara Sheets (Frank) of Jefferson, Bernice Prestwood of West Jefferson, Kathy Creps of Laurel Springs; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. J.D. Walton, Rev. Tim Roten and Rev. Jeremy Houck. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn.
