Janet Barker Hartsog

Janet Barker Hartsog passed away peacefully at her home in West Jefferson on April 30, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on January 20, 1951, in Jefferson, North Carolina, Janet was the daughter of the late Thurmond and Ilene Gilley Barker. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Haskell "Frog" Hartsog, sisters, Arlene Creasman and Kathy Sapp and step-son, Mike Hartsog.

Throughout her life, Janet exemplified warmth and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. She had a profound passion for sewing, crocheting, and reading, pursuits she cherished not just for the joy they brought her, but also for the connections they fostered within her family. Her greatest happiness was found in spending quality time with her loved ones, embodying the essence of motherhood and friendship.

Janet's family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her son, Greg Ashley, and his wife, Briana, of Warrensville, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Ethan Ashley, Maddison Houck, Matthew Houck, her step-daughters, Susan Fink of Albemarle and Leslie Osborne of West Jefferson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation in honor of Janet will take place on May 7, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Janet Barker Hartsog will be remembered for her unwavering love, her creative spirit, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Her legacy will continue to resonate through the stories shared and the lives she touched.
