James Lee McCoy

James Lee McCoy, age 83, passed away at his home on August 26, 2025. He was born in Ashe County, NC, on August 5, 1942, to Burl and Maude McCoy, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Johnny McCoy.

James is survived by his loving wife, Betty Turnmire McCoy, who was the light of his life and shared many cherished moments with him. He is also survived by his brother, Joe McCoy, sister-in-law, Ann Stikes, and his dear niece, Bonnie Turnmire, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Throughout his life, James was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. He worked diligently for the Town of West Jefferson and the Blue Ridge Parkway, where his contributions made a lasting impression. In addition to his professional accomplishments, James was a devoted husband who embraced his Baptist faith and cherished his family.

Outside of work, James found joy in simple pleasures, particularly mowing his lawn, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the companionship of his dogs. His passion for the great outdoors and the happiness he derived from these activities reflected the kind and gentle spirit he embodied.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lonnie Jones, Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Hugh Miller. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.

James Lee McCoy will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to his work, and his zest for life. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
