Irene Baldwin Hartsog

Irene Baldwin Hartsog, age 97 of Morehead City, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, in New Bern. Mrs. Hartsog was born on September 4, 1927, in Ashe County to Sidney Nelson Baldwin and Eva Hudler Baldwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dawes C. Hartsog, as well as a sister, Glenna B. Weaver.

Irene pursued a career in teaching that spanned several decades, beginning in Delaware, where she shaped the lives of countless students with her dedication and gentle guidance. After many fulfilling years, she returned to her beloved North Carolina, settling in Morehead City, where she continued her teaching career and remained active in the community.

Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her days. Even simply sharing stories and love, her presence was a constant source of encouragement and support.

A lifelong sports fan, Irene followed her favorite teams with passion and enthusiasm and rarely missed one of their games on television. She also found great enjoyment and companionship in playing bridge, where her quick mind and friendly spirit made her a favorite partner at the table.

Mrs. Hartsog is survived by:  two daughters, Cynthia Weeks of Asheville and Catherine Forman (Scott) of New Mexico; four grandchildren, Jonathan Weeks (Riley) of Morehead City, Justin Weeks (Leslie) of Garner, Ryan Weeks (Angusina Campbell) of San Diego, California, and Skyler Forman of Portland, Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Jon Dawes, Allister, Gavin, and Caroline. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
