Irene Baldwin Hartsog, age 97 of Morehead City, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Home Place of New Bern. Mrs. Hartsog was born on September 4, 1927 in Ashe County to Sidney Nelson Baldwin and Eva Belle Hudler Baldwin. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dawes Calvin Coolidge Hartsog, as well as a sister, Glenna Clyde Weaver.
Irene pursued a career in teaching that spanned several decades, beginning in Delaware where she shaped the lives of countless students with her dedication and gentle guidance. After many fulfilling years, she returned to her beloved North Carolina, settling in Morehead City, where she continued her teaching career and remained active in the community.
Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her days. Even simply sharing stories and love, her presence was a constant source of encouragement and support.
A lifelong sports fan, Irene rarely missed a game on television. She followed her favorite teams with passion and enthusiasm. She also found great enjoyment and companionship in playing bridge, where her quick mind and friendly spirit made her a favorite partner at the table.
Mrs. Hartsog is survived by: two daughters, Cynthia Weeks of Asheville and Catherine Forman (Scott) of New Mexico; four grandchildren, Jonathan Weeks (Riley) of Morehead City, Justin Weeks (Leslie) of Garner, Ryan Weeks (Angusina Campbell) of San Diego, California, and Skyler Forman of Portland, Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Weeks, Jon Dawes Weeks, Allister Weeks, Gavin Weeks, and Caroline. Also survivng are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am one hour prior to the service.
Irene Baldwin Hartsog will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to education, her love for her family, and her spirited zest for life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intelligence, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
