Glenda Poole Caudill

Glenda Poole Caudill, age 75, of West Jefferson, passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Born Wednesday, January 11, 1950, in Augusta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Lafavor Poole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeffery Wade Caudill.

Glenda was a lifelong lover of learning and language. She earned her undergraduate degree in English and French from Appalachian State University in 1972, a foundation that shaped both her professional life and her love for education. She devoted 30 years to public education, serving students at Beaver Creek High School and later Ashe County High School, before retiring after a fulfilling career in the classroom. She was also a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators.

A creature of habit, Glenda found joy in life’s simple and familiar rhythms. She loved watching NASCAR races, observing butterflies, and spending time in the comfort of her home. Her faith was central to her life, and she dearly loved her church family at West Jefferson First Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in the women’s groups and cherished the fellowship they shared.

Glenda will be remembered most fondly for her thoughtful and personal connections with others. Few gestures defined her more than her tradition of calling friends and loved ones on their birthdays—always making sure to sing “Happy Birthday,” a small act that brought great joy and made everyone feel remembered and valued.

She is survived by her two sons, David Williams (Wendy) of Granite Falls and Daniel Locke Williams (Angie) of Wilkesboro; her sister, Joan Watson of King, North Carolina; her brother, Jack Poole of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Kirkland Williams, Devin Barnette, Makenzie Williams, and Layla Allen; one great-grandson, Easton Barnette; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm at West Jefferson City Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Lea. The family will receive friends following the service at her home on West First Street in West Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Jefferson, P.O. Box 180, West Jefferson, North Carolina 28694.
