Estella Irene Blevins Powers Goss

Estella was with us until just days before her 99th birthday celebration. She was a lifelong native of Ashe County, NC and lifelong member of Lansing Presbyterian Church where she was the pianist for many years. After early high school graduation, she attended Appalachian State Teachers College and graduated at the young age of 16. Her career as a teacher spanned 34 years, first at Lansing High School and then Northwest Ashe High School. She touched the lives of countless young people with her caring spirit and often encountered former students who thanked her for the positive impact she had on their lives.

Estella was the daughter of the late James Oscar Blevins and Lockie Carolina Elliott Blevins. She was preceded in death by her brother Ray Blevins, her sister Frances Blevins Glenn and two loving husbands, Raymond Mack Powers and Thomas Ivan Goss.

Estella is survived by five loving children, Gail Powers Pierpoint, Mack Powers and wife Sherry, Janis Powers Roten and husband Bob, Sandy Goss Lemly and husband Jesse and Ginger Goss Wagner, as well as 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.

In keeping with her desire to promote education and medical science, she made the decision early on to donate her body to Bowman Gray School of Medicine.

Mrs. Goss' family invites anyone to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, September 29, 2024 in the barn at Lansing Creeper Trail Park. Come by anytime between 2:00 and 4:00pm to share memories and stories. They would love to hear from the many people whose lives she touched.

The family would like to give many thanks to the staff and caregivers at Generations Ashe Assisted Living and Medi-Home Hospice of West Jefferson, NC.
