Ernie Ray Woodard

Ernie Ray Woodard, affectionately known as "Spud," age 78 of Todd, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at his home. He was born on May 29, 1945, in Ashe County, North Carolina, to Ernest and Lettie Eldreth Woodard. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Geneva Eller, Jean Winebarger, Sally Testerman, Joan Eller, and Billie Farmer; one brother, Charles Woodard; daughter, Autumn Woodard Gonzalez and twin daughters, Sharon and Karen Woodard.

Throughout his life, Ernie exemplified the qualities of a hard worker who dedicated himself to farming and sawmilling. During the Vietnam War, Ernie served his country with honor and bravery as a member of the United States Army. Beyond his professional and military achievements, Ernie will be remembered as a good man with a kind heart. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of hard work, dedication, and kindness will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda Lawrence Woodard; three sons, Scott Woodard, Jonathan Woodard, and Kevin Woodard, all of Todd; four grandchildren, Megan Woodard, Charity Woodard, Ethan Woodard, and Ricky Osborne; five great-grandchildren, Luna, Aiden, Diani, Abby, and Braxton; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Dr. Jim Rash and Rev. Jimmy Williams. Burial will follow in the Woodard Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 U.S. Highway 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.
