Edward "Eddie" Lee Jones

Edward Lee Jones, better known as “Eddie”, age 59, passed away peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro the morning of July 9, 2022, after losing his battle with cancer. Eddie was born November 13, 1962, in Jefferson, Ashe County, NC, to the late Jerry and Ethel Jones. He is also preceded in death by many beloved aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. He was a loving, jovial, special person; everyone who met and got to know Eddie adored him.

Eddie mostly grew up in Liberty, NC before returning to the Jefferson area in the 1980s. He lived there until 2012 when he moved to Greensboro. Eddie was a hard worker who had many jobs over the years. He worked for quite a while at ADAP in Lansing, NC and also at Food Lion in Jefferson as a bagger and for a while at the County Jail washing dishes and doing laundry.

Eddie loved country music all his life, mainly the old classics. He especially loved Johnny Cash but also Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride, Kenny Rogers, etc. etc. He used to listen to their music and sing along joyfully. He would play his banjo often and write country music songs. Ed also enjoyed communicating with friends and family on Facebook and playing video games on his iPad. He loved watching old television shows like “In the Heat of the Night,” the “Dukes of Hazard,” “Hee Haw,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” etc. More recently he considered “Larry’s Country Diner” to be his favorite show. He loved watching the local news and weather reports. He also enjoyed watching football (he was a Dallas Cowboys fan), college basketball (he cheered for the Tar Heels), and NASCAR races. He adored and took extremely good care of his beloved little doggie, Scrappy, a miniature pincher.

Eddie is survived by his sister, Beverly Hardy, Liberty; his brother, Jeff Jones, Greensboro; and his brother-in-law Allen Hardy, Liberty. He is also survived by aunts Louellen Fleming, West Jefferson, NC; Anne Jones, Gibsonville, NC; Mary (and Lewis) Barr, Konnarock, Va; Anita (and David) Severt, Konnarock; Lisa (and Alan) Richardson, Marion, Va; and Liz Stamper, Konnarock; two uncles, Bob Jones, Gibsonville, and Tony (Tobe) Jones, Warrensville, NC; two nephews, Daniel Hardy, Hawaii, and Andrew Jones, Greensboro, and two nieces, the twins Olivia and Rachel Hardy, Liberty; and many, many cousins. He and cousin Beth Eldreth of West Jefferson were very close friends and enjoyed spending time together. Eddie loved and was loved by his girlfriend Wendy Stafford of Greensboro. The Greene family, Dave, Tony, Terry, Sheila, etc. of Ramseur and Liberty also considered Eddie to be part of their family, and he really enjoyed going to their family gatherings over the years. Justin Brown was also a close friend of Ed for many years.
