Edna Mae Weaver Sawyer

Edna Mae Weaver Sawyer, age 87, of Warrensville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Sawyer was born in Grayson County, Virginia, to the late Wilborn Clayborn and Violet Owen Weaver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Garland Ham; her second husband, Alan Ray Sawyer; her brother, Kenneth Weaver; sister, Dot Sturgill; and son, Garland Joseph Ham, Jr.

Edna Mae graduated from Lansing High School in 1957 and, with her trademark determination, went back to school later in life, earning a degree in Industrial Maintenance from Wilkes Community College in 2003 at the age of 65. Her accomplishment was a great source of pride and an inspiration to her family and friends.

She was a woman of many talents and interests—she loved reading, working puzzles, sewing, gardening, and playing cards. Her life was one of service and kindness. Edna Mae was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and gave freely of her time volunteering at community events including Ashe Outreach Ministries, BROC, and the River Lions Club. She also served her community as an Ashe County representative for the Partners in Public Health Board.

Edna’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, friends and her special friends Jackie Johnson and Madge Sawyer. She cherished every visit, every meal shared, and every laugh around the table. Her warmth, humor, and generous heart made her beloved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Bobbi Blevins (Tom), Gaye Miller (Roger), Regenia Ham (Danny Armstrong), Ray Sawyer (Lisa) and JC Sawyer (Yolanda); grandchildren: Moriah, Randall, Daniel, Sarah, Billy, Allyson, Tiffany, Jacob, Cierra, Courtney and Nathan; great grandchildren: Seanna, Brianna, Bethany, Keller, Tanner, Alex, Brooklyn, Destinee, Hunter, Brayden, Jayden, Tyler, Natalie, Jordan, Mia, Mckenzie, Harlie, Ezekiel, Kaydence, Lola and Maverick; great-great grandchild: Lennon; brother, Allen Weaver (Heather), of Elizabethton, TN; three sisters, Agnes Wyatt (Randy) of Statesville, Betty Lambert (Richard) of Jefferson, and Christine Wyatt of West Jefferson, sister in-law, Mary Weaver of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00 am at Pleasant View Baptist Church by Pastor Dwight Shepherd, Preacher David Lewis and Rev. Rick Cornejo. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
