Doris Hart Perry, age 96, of Lansing, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living. She was born on December 12, 1928, in Ashe County to the late Luke Lilburn “Crutch” Hart and Anna Wiles Hart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Clayton Perry; her second husband, Doss Greer; her son, Harold Edwin Perry; sisters, Ethel Blevins, Retha Shepherd, Blanche Miller, Grace Miller, and Betty Richardson; and brothers, Dale Hart and Quinton Hart.
Doris Perry was a woman whose life reflected kindness, strength, and a deep love for her family, friends, and faith. A hardworking soul, she dedicated her days to caring for others in ways both big and small.
Doris had a gift for making people feel at home. No one ever left her house hungry—her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and nourishment. She often cooked for the sick and those in need, sharing love through every meal. She enjoyed canning food, ensuring that nothing was wasted, and she poured the same resourcefulness and determination into all areas of her life.
In her free time, Doris found joy in crocheting and creating beautiful works with her hands. Before her illness, she loved tending to her flowers and garden, finding peace in the beauty she cultivated.
Music was another of Doris’s gifts. She loved to sing with her brothers and sisters, and the harmony they shared was the kind that can only come from voices bound by both family and love.
Above all, Doris loved Jesus and lived her faith through her actions—always strong, always determined, always giving. Her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion.
She will be remembered as a woman who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and brought light to the lives of everyone around her.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Dayna Price and husband Grant of West Jefferson; her son, Charles Leonard Perry and wife Sarah of Lansing; her brother, Carl Hart and wife Dorothy of Warrensville; sister-in-law, Virginia Hart; two grandchildren, Bailee Adams and husband Mike, and Amanda Caldwell and husband David; three great-grandchildren, Braylon Adams, Westly Adams, and Avery Caldwell; as well as several nieces and nephews.
