Donald Dean Goss

Donald Dean Goss was born in 1931 in Ashe County, North Carolina and moved to the booming coal-mining town of Anawalt, West Virginia when he was 11. He got his first job at 12 years old picking beans for 50 cents a bushel. He also lived in Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania where he worked at General Motors and Lucas Steel. He bought his first gas station in 1961 and owned multiple businesses in Ashe and Watauga counties.  He also proudly served in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Mae Goss, his brother, Hunter Goss and his son, Franklin Dean Goss.

Don enjoyed NASCAR (especially Ford cars), crime investigation, surfing the internet and listening to his favorite music. He also collected a variety of items including coins, pocket knives, vintage bottles, clocks and watches. He loved showing his “treasures” to all his friends and family.

Don was married to his loving wife, Linda, for 49 years. He will be remembered by all as a good man with a kind and giving heart who had a sharp mind and an incredible memory.
