Diesel Dwight Hampton better known as Dee left this world to enter his eternal home surrounded by his loving family on June 7, 2025. Dee was born on June 11, 1938 to the late James Wade and Ida Plummer Hampton.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Donnie and Ronnie Hampton; eight brothers, Excelon, Kermit, Jim, Earl, Junior, Eddie, Loyall, and Sanford.
Dee was a man who showed what hard work looked like. He began working at a very young age and continued working well into his senior years. Dee was a handyman who could build or fix anything. If you needed something done, Dee is the one you called. For those who knew him best they knew if you were going to be around him, you would be up working and not dilly dallying around. You also knew that frivolous spending was an absolute no no. Dee was a man who was so tight his shoes squeaked, that is unless he was walking into Lowe's Hardware or Parker Tie Company. He was a quiet man with a tender heart. While watching movies with a happy ending, Dee would be the first one to cry, quietly of course because that was Dee. There was nothing that society would say was big about the man but those who knew him, knew Dee was a man with a very big, kind heart. Heaven doesn't need a handyman but if it did, the number one Mr. Fix It has arrived.
Dee is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kathy Miller Hampton, daughter in law, Kim Hampton of Mountain City, TN, son, Jonathan (Christy) Shaw of Columbia, SC, Pam (Pickle) Ball of Grassy Creek, NC, his loyal and faithful companion (that he loved more than anything), Queen Dee Dee, daughter, Sandy Dempsey, Wilmington, DE, Steve Hampton, Mountain City, TN, and sister in law, Ollie Hampton, Mountain City, TN. He is also survived by a special grandson, Logan Hampton, special granddaughter, Camie Pruitt, special grandson in law, Blake Heath, special nephew, Travis Cornett, and special sister and brother in law, Terri and Allen Miller.
He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be on Wednesday, June 11th at 4:00 pm at Beaver Creek Christian Church cemetery, West Jefferson, NC, ministers JD Walton and Loren Lung. Special music will be provided by David and Penny Grubb.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the many friends and loved ones who visited or called, the staff of Ashe Memorial Hospital, 2d and 3rd floor staff, and a very special thank you to Dee's longtime physician, Derrick McClure and Ashe Family Healthcare staff, Medi Home Health and Hospice of Ashe County, NC.
