Della Elizabeth (Denney) Bauguess

Della Elizabeth Bauguess, age 94 of Creston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. Della was born March 18, 1929 to the late Eli and Lelar Lewis Denney of Ashe County. In addition to her parents, Della was preceded in death by her husband Herman “Sam” Bauguess, twin sons Jerry and Gerald, infant granddaughters Beth Bauguess and Angelica Grubbs, one grandson Stephen Jones, sons-in-law Scott Greer, Harold Jones, and Jim Snyder, and one daughter-in-law Sandra Pardue Bauguess. Della was also preceded in death by one sister Ella Taylor, and six brothers Delmer, Delbert, L.D., Jimmy, Robert, and Wayne Denney.

Della was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her large family. She was “Mamaw” to twenty one grandchildren who cherished and adored her. She was also blessed with thirty four great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Della was a devoted member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was full of life and remained active and independent into her nineties. Prior to illness, Della had a green thumb and enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and canning her home-grown food. She loved preparing huge family meals. She made sure everyone had a full plate and she was always the last one to eat. Della loved quilting, camping, pier fishing, playing putt-putt and watching the UNC Tarheels play basketball every chance she got. Della was a gentle, loving lady who loved babies and birds. She was greatly loved and she will be greatly missed!

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons George Bauguess of Oxford, PA, Johnny Bauguess and wife Dianne of Mountain City, TN and Rick Bauguess and wife Dorothy of Creston (the Pond Mountain community); her daughters Judy Snyder of West Jefferson, Juanita Jones of Creston (the Pond Mountain community) and Dorothy Grubb and husband John of Old Fort, NC; one sister Stella Morefield of Mountain City, and one brother, Cliff Denney of Wilkesboro; also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Mountain View Baptist Church by Pastor Brian Weaver and Pastor Brandy Phipps. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2024 prior to the service at the church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church.
