David Junior Church, age 65, of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025. He was born on August 4, 1960, in Ashe County to the late Billie “Bill” Junior Church and Mildred Pennington Church. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Viers and nephew, William Caudill.
David was known as a true “jack of all trades.” Whether it was working on cars, tinkering around the house, or fixing something that needed mending, he could always be found with a project in hand. Hardworking, stubborn in the best way, and never one to sit idle, David took pride in staying busy and finding purpose in everything he did.
He loved spending time outdoors—gardening, camping with his family, four-wheeling, and watching races at the dirt track were among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed relaxing with a good western and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. David especially treasured his time with his grandchildren, creating memories that will forever be held close to their hearts. He was also deeply fond of his dogs, Jackson and later Jenny, both of whom were loyal companions through the years.
Above all, David was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Bald Mountain Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was active in the Baptist Men’s group and food ministry. His heart for service and willingness to help others reflected his strong faith and love for his church community.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Nuckolls Church; his son, Jonathan Church and wife Alisha of Jefferson; his daughter, Amanda Blackburn and husband Collin of Raleigh; and three beloved grandchildren, Addison, Eden, and Chloe Church. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Church of West Jefferson; three sisters, Joyce Fink of Jefferson, Janie May of West Jefferson, and Brenda Church of Wilkesboro; along with several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The service will be held on what would have been David and Sandra’s 44th wedding anniversary—a fitting tribute to a lifetime of love and devotion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, c/o Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 US Hwy 221 N, Jefferson, NC 28640.
