Darrel Joe Clark, age 88 of Deep Gap, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 17, 2024. He was born on May 21, 1936, in Ashe County, North Carolina, to Howard Jack Clark and mother, Lessie Miller Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his stepdaughter, Lisa Kelley.
Darrel courageously served in the Army during the Korean War, embodying a spirit of dedication and sacrifice that defined his character throughout his life. His service to his country was a point of pride that he carried with him always.
He worked for over 25 years at Rockwell International and later spent 10 years with Tyson. Outside of work, Darrel was a man of many passions. He enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, gardening, and canning the vegetables he lovingly grew. He especially delighted in gifting his homemade canned goods to family and friends. He cherished time spent at the homeplace, his childhood home, and found great joy in traveling and exploring new places.
A devoted family man, Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Flossie Smith Clark, and their two daughters, Diana Berger (Richard) and Lisa Alexander (Dief). He is also survived by stepson, Tim Cagle; sister, Wilma Cornwell; three grandchildren, one step-grandchild, five great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
