Carroll Gene Phillips age 86 of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A dedicated husband, father, and friend, Carroll lived a life marked by service, faith, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
He was born August 14, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Russell Roosevelt and Maude Trivette Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Dean Phillips and brothers, Russell Dean Phillips and Jerry Phillips.
Carroll was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force, carrying with him the values of honor and duty throughout his life. After his military service, he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with Leviton Manufacturing, where he later retired.
A faithful member and deacon of Big Flatts Baptist Church, Carroll was steadfast in his beliefs and committed to serving his church family. His quiet strength, kind spirit, and steady presence blessed all who knew him.
In their younger years, Carroll and his wife cherished traveling together, creating memories that their family will hold dearly forever. He found joy in the simple moments and valued the time spent with loved ones above all else.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Home Care Aides and Medi Home Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Carroll’s final months, and to the many friends, neighbors, and prayer warriors who supported them along the way.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Thelma Eldreth Phillips, son, Randy Phillips of Fleetwood, daughter, Sherry Cox and husband Chris of Laurel Springs, two grandchildren, Christopher Cox and Abby Phillips; two brothers, John Phillips and wife Donna, Clayton Phillips and wife Phyllis, one sister, Charlotte Trivette all of Fleetwood and a special family friend, Judy Ham; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Big Flatts Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Cox, Rev. Christopher Cox, Rev. Sherrill Wellborn and Rev. Billy Norris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
