Obituary

Brian Scott Johnson, of Fletcher, NC, was suddenly and unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2026. He was a beloved husband, son, son-in-law, brother-in-law, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He is predeceased in death by his grandparents Ray and Virgina Johnson and Reverend Glenn and Arlene Woodie.

Brian was born on December 23, 1977 in Jefferson, NC and that is where he always called home. Brian loved the Ashe County mountains during his time living there and all the wonderful memories he had there and never missed an opportunity to come back. Brian loved fishing, motor sports including Nascar and NHRA drag racing, NC State Wolfpack sports, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Yankees. He had recently started learning the art of canning and loved experimenting with different flavoring of dilly beans and using his neighbors and family as guinea pigs. But, the thing he loved most was his Lord Savior and his precious wife.

The most important thing was his family and he tried to never miss an opportunity to attend family gatherings or trips. He always said family was the most important thing. He also enjoyed spending time with the friends he made along his life’s journey.

Brian was a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and for the past four years was the Public Health Program Specialist for the Transylvania County Health Department. While pursuing his education in Environmental Health Brian attended and graduated from NC State and Western Carolina University.

Brian was a former Member of Baptist on Mission. He was honored to have been able to do disaster relief work with Baptist on Mission in New Bern after Hurricane Florence flooded the area. He had a passion in helping those in need and less fortunate, especially children and the elderly.

Brian was a former member of the Boone Gideon Camp and had a passion for trying to get Bibles into the hands of those that needed it most, especially the youth. During his time as a member, He helped with getting the Gideons back into being a vendor at the back to school event in Watauga County and had advocated for getting bibles back into all the Watauga schools.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Dr. Ed Yount, Rev. Keith Woodie and Pastor Phillip Luther.  Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm prior to the service.

Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and wife, Tarin Johnson and their two special cats Bull and Alma of Fletcher, NC, his parents David and Linda Johnson of Conover, NC, his father and mother-in-law Craig and Linda Clark of Cedar City, UT, brother-in-laws Devin Clark (Lucinda) of Spring Hill, FL and Kyle Clark (Jackie) of Chico, CA, his beloved nieces and nephews MaKenna Jordan (Alec), Mercedes Clark, Ashlyn Clark, and Kyler Clark. His aunts Debra Rose (Robert), Becky Winebarger (Michael), Brenda Ellis (Eric), uncle Reverend David Woodie (Theresa) and Cousins: Jennifer Rose, Andrew Winebarger (Emily), Rachel Winebarger, Michaela Harwood (Jacob), Dayna Downs (Chris), and Natalie Carswell
