Betty Jewell (Howell) Tucker

Betty Jewell Howell Tucker, age 87 of Lansing, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Margate Health and Rehab. She was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on April 14, 1936 to the late, Arthur Glen and Carrie Elliott Howell.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Tucker, six infant siblings, one brother, Eugene Howell and one sister, Josephine “Jessie” Miller.

Betty's life was one of love and selflessness. Her love for gardening was well-known throughout the community, as a testament to her generous spirit she was always ready to share her bountiful harvest with those around her. Betty was not only a provider of beautiful blooms and fresh produce but also of heartfelt sentiments. She had a knack for brightening up people's lives by sending them all-occasion cards in the mail. Her thoughtful words and caring nature reached far and wide. Betty was also a puzzle enthusiast and loved to work a good puzzle in her free time.

Her faith was unwavering, and she found solace in her Bible. Betty's love for reading the Word was a guiding light in her life, offering her comfort and direction. A devoted member of Sturgills Baptist Church, Betty was an active part of her congregation. She found immense joy in joining her church members to sing at nursing homes and traveling around to other churches, sharing the gift of music and love with those who needed it most.

Family was the cornerstone of Betty's life. She adored her close-knit family and took great pleasure in hosting family get-togethers, where her cooking skills shone. Her delicious meals were a testament to her love for her family and her desire to create lasting memories with them.

Betty Jewell Howell Tucker will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, faith, and her gift for spreading joy, her memory will forever be in our hearts.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Eller (Jerry Allen) of Lansing, son, Allan Russell Tucker of Todd, brother, Charles Howell of Lansing, three grandchildren, Tony Eller, Angela Eller Miller and Katrina Eastridge, great-grandchildren, Ivy Jones and Kurt Jones, nieces, Jean Baldwin and Shelia Howell, nephew, James Arthur Miller and great-niece, Deloris Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Sturgills Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day.  The body will lie in state from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Sexton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 4:00-6:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Sturgills Baptist Church, c/o Katherine Sturgill, 155 Fees Branch Road, Lansing, NC 28643.

The family will be meeting at the home of her daughter, Wanda Eller, at 215 Joe Weaver Road in Lansing.
