Beatrice “Beady” Blevins, age 94, of the Long Branch community in Lansing, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Beady was born on April 30, 1931, in Ashe County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Oscar and Lucretia Black Gilley, sister, Blanche Surber, and her brothers: Edward Blevins, Ernest, Conley, Elmer, Lillard, Gordon, Fred, Dean, and Earl Gilley.
Though she never completed formal schooling, Beady was a wise and knowledgeable woman with a remarkable memory. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills, and those fortunate enough to gather around her table were blessed by her talents and warm hospitality.
Beady had a joyful spirit and a heart full of love. She enjoyed gospel music, laughter, and life itself. Always ready with a good laugh or a harmless trick to play, her light-hearted nature endeared her to everyone she met. While she had no children of her own, Beady had a deep love for children and cared for them with a nurturing spirit and a generous heart.
She was a faithful member of Long Branch Baptist Church, where she was never afraid to lift her voice in praise and worship her Lord. Her faith was unwavering, and her example was an encouragement to all who knew her.
Beady is survived by, her sister, Irene Eldreth of Warrensville, brother, Edison Gilley of Lansing, sisters in-law, Betty Blevins of West Grove, PA, June Gilley of South Port, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Cathy Dowell, Sandra Blevins, and Debbie Trainor, for the compassionate and loving care they gave to Beady in her final days.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Dennis Poe and Rev. Greg Poe. Burial will follow in the Wyatt Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses, c/o Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 US Hwy 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.
The family is gathering at the home of her niece, Carol Jones at 418 Calvin Drive in West Jefferson where friends may call at anytime.
Beady’s vibrant personality, kind heart, and joyful laughter will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
